Garage Sale and Plant Sale

The library board is going to surplus some items for the garage sale day in the village on Saturday July 10th from 8am-12pm! Stop in and see what items we have for sale and we are hoping to have a some books for sale too! All proceeds will go to the Building Expansion Project.

Also on July 10th we will be having a plant sale as well! Stop in and get some great plantings for your flower beds! All proceeds of this sale will go towards the new landscaping around the new entry to the new addition.

We look forward to seeing you then, so mark your calendars now! :-)

Summer Reading 2009

We had 84 kids sign up and 50 graduate this year! The theme was Be Creative at your Library and we had TONS of fun!!! The kids read 1053 hours but next year they are going to try and read over 2000 hours! If they do, Joe will get a mohawk and color it purple! If they can only read 1500 hours, he will just get a mohawk. The theme next year is all about water so it should be alot of fun!

Budget Vote

The library would like to remind all patrons that Tuesday May 19 is the 2010 library budget vote. The vote will take place at Edward R. Andrews Elementary School between the hours of 6 am and 9 pm. It is very important that the budget pass, so that the library can continue to provide excellent services.

About seventy-five percent of the taxpayers will experience an average increase of $12 per year. If you break it down, this increase works out to be 23¢ per week or 3¢ per day. It is a very small price to pay for such a wonderful library.

The benefits of passing the 2010 budget are numerous. First, the library will purchase more books and DVD’s. Second, the library will offer more computers with high speed Internet access for public use. Third, the library will increase library hours to 50 hours per week. Fourth, the library will provide more educational programs for children and adults. Lastly, the library will improve building facilities through restoration and repair.

Library Closing

The Library will be closing early at 4pm on Friday May 22 and will reopen on Tuesday May 26 at 10am for the holiday weekend. Be sure to check out enough materials to get you by until we reopen. If you want to return items, we do have the bookdrop to the left of the front door. We wish you all a great Memorial Day weekend and look forward to seeing you when we reopen on Tuesday!

Well, we have decided we got so many great names for the little guy that we need your help. Do you like Dewey, Louie, Lucky, Echo or Bookmark? Stop into the library now until 4pm on Saturday May 2 and cast your vote. People can only vote ten times and the winner will be announced at our Lizard Party on Wednesday May 6 at 6:30pm.

Well the adults won the winter reading contest by reading 40 more books than the kids. So the kids were bummin for a bit until they learned that more adults had voted for the lizard than anything else. So we were still getting the library lizard!!!! YAY!!!

Now,we need a name so there is a contest going on now to name our new lizard! Submit your name today!! If we choose your idea you will win a $25 gift card to Wal-mart!!! You can enter more than one name in the contest.

Stop in to the library for the entry forms or email the Library Manager at mforward@midyork.org with your idea for the lizard's name and your name and phone number.

Library Lock-In

The 2nd Annual Library Lock-In is coming soon! This event is open to all kids, teens and adults! Please join us on Friday February 27 at 8pm until 8am the next morning. We lock the doors and the fun begins! There are games, computers, movies, karaoke, food, music and tons of laughs! There is something for everyone!

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Library Manager. PLEASE NOTE: All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Chill Out at Our Library-Winter Reading Program

Starting on December 1st, we began our winter reading program. Its open to adults and kids and its a competition between the two to see who can read more books! All you have to do is stop in to the library and sign up and go home and read! Whatever group wins, the Friends of the Library will purchase an item for the library that each group votes on. The adult who reads the most books wins a chocolate lovers basket! Kids reading 18 books get a snow plushed toy and then every book over that get entered into a drawing to win a play and freeze ice cream maker! Winter Reading ends on Monday Febraury 23 at 8pm. Hard to believe the summer is over! We had a record number of children sign up for Summer Reading this year! We had 88 kids sign up and 70 of those graduated! Last year we had 40 graduate and 54 sign up! Wow! Together, the participants this year read 1448 hours! WOW!

We are very proud of these kids and look forward to seeing them next year!

Summer Reading Program!!!!

Our Summer Reading Program is "Catch the Reading Bug!" It will run from July 7 through August 15 with graduation August 20.

The summer reading program is open to all kids ages 1-17. Spend the summer with us learning about bugs, eat some bugs, make buggy crafts, go on a bug scavenger hunt and lots more!

Be sure to stop in anytime the week of July 7 and sign your child up for the program. Then through the course of the next six weeks your child needs to read at least 8 hours. If completing this requirement, your child will be invited to attend our graduation ceremony complete with prizes and ice cream sundaes!

Kwahadi Dancers

The Kwahadi Dancers are coming to perform on Sunday July 27 at 2pm. We are hosting this event at Madison Hall in Morrisville NY. Check out their website at www.kwahadi.com. It sounds like a wonderful cultural event so bring the entire family!

An Update!

First of all if you have been in to the library you have noticed some staff changes. Michelle is still the Manager, Jody works days M, W-F and Joe works nights as programmer M,W,F and Tu during the day. Eric is a more frequent face at the library working M,Tu,W,F afternoons. But, we sadly had to see Bette go as our evening person. She decided to retire for health reasons and she is sorely missed by us all. In her place, we welcome Robi. Robi will work M,W,F evenings and Sa.

Besides the staff changes, patrons will notice construction again this summer. Due to the Library Manager securing two grants, the stained glass in the front foyer will be restored to its 1850 state, the Local History Room will be renovated and she hopes to reopen later this summer. Michelle is looking for volunteers to come sort out and reorganize the room when they are done upstairs. If interested, please see her.

Also, the exterior of the building will be painted and the downstairs windows will be restored and be in working order by the end of summer. Again, we ask you to bear with us during this process.

The Library Ghost

The ectoplasm is the last picture under "ectoplasm" on the bottom right.

The Ghost Seekers of CNY would like to reinvestigate the library in February 2008. Stay tuned for details on that investigation.

Library Ghost-real or not real?

The Ghost Seeker's of CNY came and did an investigation of the library in September. They presented their findings to the public in October. They feel there is definitely the presence of something here. They would like to return and investigate it further. They had a few incidences and an EVP occur while they were here. Stay tuned for more information of these exciting findings!

A Big Thank You!

I would like to thank the 4-H group that came into the library yesterday carrying a big containers of pennies! They saw that we were collecting pennies for our building restoration fund and they saved some for us! It was a very thoughtful gesture and I am very proud of each and every one of them for doing this for our library! Thank you for helping us move one step closer to restoring our beautiful building!

Help us Rebuild the Library!!

We are currently renovating and restoring the library building. It wsa built in 1850 as a residence but was given to the Village of Morrisville as a library in 1903. It has been a library since then and we are in dire need of expansion and renovation. If you can help us, we are looking for monetary donations and/or a donated specialized skill.
